How Long Have You Been a Videographer? Our Story So Far

When you’re choosing someone to film your wedding, it’s fair to want to know who they are and how long they’ve been doing it. So here’s our story and how Grace & Motion started, how we film, and what we’ve learned from the couples we’ve worked with.

Key Highlights

  • Grace & Motion is just the two of us, Julia and Cal.
  • We filmed our first weddings for friends in 2018, and founded Grace & Motion at the end of 2019.
  • We film in a documentary way, with discreet kit and no big lights.
  • We always meet couples before the wedding, and we work closely with your photographer and celebrant.
  • We’ve filmed at venues from the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall in York to Hedsor House and Shropshire.

How Grace & Motion Began

Where It Started

In 2017 we planned our own wedding and immediately fell in love with wedding planning and the wedding industry. Since then, we have been in love with love. Then in 2018, a few of our friends asked us to film their weddings. We loved the creativity and joy of wedding videography and played with the idea of taking it further. At the end of 2019 we founded Grace & Motion, and then 2020 happened. However, that didn’t stop us. As soon as the wedding industry was back, we were at the ready with our cameras.

Julia and Cal

It’s just the two of us, and that’s the whole crew. On the day, Julia films alongside Cal and is your main point of contact. She keeps an eye on the little things, like straightening a tie, fixing a veil or settling your dress, and outside she’ll give you a gentle idea of where to walk or stand, then step back. Cal is the primary shooter and makes sure you get all the shots you need for your film.

How We Film

Documentary, Not Directed

We don’t ask you to pose or repeat anything, and we don’t rearrange you or your guests. We use discreet kit and no big lights, so you can get on with enjoying the day, and most of the time you’ll forget we’re there.

Built Around the Sound of the Day

We record the audio separately from the cameras, so every word of your vows and speeches is clear, and we build your film around them. The music we use is instrumental, and if there are songs you love, we’re always happy to hear them. Chloe & Johnny noticed the difference:

“The team really took the time to notice the vibe of our wedding and chose beautiful music to reflect this.”

What We’ve Learned Along the Way

Getting to Know You First

We always meet couples before the wedding, and we really value open communication in the lead-up to the day. Sophie & James noticed this from the start:

“Even from booking they were interested in what we as a couple wanted from the film.”

Working With Your Photographer and Celebrant

Before the ceremony we speak to your celebrant to check where we can stand, and agree with your photographer who’s standing where, so everyone knows the plan. We’ve worked alongside photographers including Matt Ebbage, Danny Knight, Jasmin Paige and Sophie Eleanor.

Venues We Know

We’ve filmed weddings at the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall, where Leah & Theo arrived in a Ghostbusters car, and at The Hospitium in the Museum Gardens. We’ve used a drone at Middleton Lodge, filmed Abi & Luke’s winter wedding at Hedsor House, and travelled to Shropshire for Sophie & James.

Why Couples Choose Us

We’re a small team, and that’s the point. You’ll get to know us before the wedding, we’ll be the ones filming on the day, and your film will be built around the moments that matter to you.

You can see our work on our portfolio, find what’s included on our packages page, or read more about us as a Yorkshire wedding videographer.

Any questions, just shout.

Julia & Cal

Author

Meet Julia, your main point of contact on the day, there to keep everything running smoothly while the videographers focus on filming. She also shoots alongside them, capturing small moments and details that might otherwise be missed, while quietly making sure you both look your best on camera. From fixing a dress or suit to guiding natural movement and relaxed smiles, she’s always close by. Before, during, and after the wedding, Julia is there to answer questions, solve problems, and help the day feel calm and effortless.
